FAMILY COUNSELING

Family counseling

HOME / Family Counseling

Families are complex systems. When communication breaks down, the answer is rarely one person who needs fixing.

Over time, a family settles into patterns: who speaks up, who goes quiet, who gets blamed. In family therapy we look at the whole web of relationships, not just the person who seems to be struggling.

What we work on

We'll identify the hidden patterns and roles that shape your daily life and work on clearing communication blocks so everyone feels heard, understood, and connected. We'll explore how each individual's actions and emotions ripple through the entire family.

Most families arrive with an identified patient — the kid who is struggling, the parent who is angry. Systemic work gently moves the focus off that one person and onto the pattern that keeps producing the behavior. That reframe is often a relief for everyone, especially the person who has been carrying the label.

Who comes to sessions

It varies, and it can change as we go. Sometimes it's the whole household, sometimes a parent pair, sometimes one parent and one teen. I work with ages thirteen and up, and we'll decide the configuration together based on what the work needs rather than a fixed rule.

This tends to fit when…

  • One child has become the family's identified problem

  • Conflict between a parent and a teenager has hardened into a script

  • A separation, remarriage, or blended household is still finding its shape

  • Grief, illness, or a major change has knocked the family off balance

  • Everyone is talking and nobody feels heard
